Budweiser's recent World Cup Soccer-themed commercial features alternative rockers 30 Seconds to Mars performing 'Kings and Queens' from their 2009 album 'This is War.' The ad starts with rival soccer players trading shirts after a match, inspiring fans around the world to happily trade their beloved shirts, telephones, and even pets, but of course not their beer, as the song's massive "whoooaa-ohhh-ohh" chant plays in the background.
To get the huge vocal sound featured in the song, 30 Seconds to Mars invited their fans to sing parts for the then-unreleased album at special recording "summits" across the world, then combined all those vocal tracks into one gigantic world-wide choir for the final recorded version.
The Los Angeles-based band, which features actor Jared Leto on guitar and lead vocals, has put out three studio albums since forming in 1998, and will spend most of the summer touring Europe in support of 'This is War,' their third studio album. You can check out the commercial below and listen to 30 Seconds to Mars and other great alt music on AOL Radio's Top Alternative Radio station.
